MINORBIRDS
About the Band
MinorbirdsThe Minorbirds consist of two strong, fervent women of the northwoods - one a farmer and the other a teacher by trade - who share a bond of motherhood and a love of music. Despite having met only very recently they exhibit a strong musical connectedness, which is evident in their effortless vocal blending and tight delivery. Minorbirds’ music is driven by rich harmonies, deep lyrical connection, and a diversity of influences which provide depth and breadth to their performances. While they contend their souls are exhibited most distinctly in the minor key, Brooke Anderson and Megan Barr of the Minorbirds write and perform in a range of styles, including folk, soul, roots, country and Americana.

Barr grew up playing piano and guitar and singing 4 part harmonies to hymns with her family. Her musician father and musically curious mother exposed her to a wide range of influences, which she pulls from when she writes. She has a sparse and creative artistic style, making the most of both musical space and silence in her songs while hitting her listener with profound lyrics which paint the universal human condition. Her voice is incredibly unique, both gritty and polished, with depth and choir-like precision. As a new and emerging singer/songwriter, Barr is developing her own unique sound and finding her artistic wings.
Anderson’s primary instrument is guitar, but she has also been known to pick a mandolin and plunk out a tune on the piano. These side-project instruments lend a melange of sound and interest to Minorbird sets. Her songs cover a wide range of topics and emotions; songs that deal with the highs and lows of life. She describes struggles with inner demons and self-worth, the challenges and elation of motherhood, the importance of appreciating the small things in and around us, and the need for forgiveness even under the toughest circumstances. With a smooth, relaxed vocal delivery, Anderson can both carry the weight of a song or blend masterfully to deliver harmonious richness.
